What is Valerian?

Valerian is a strong perennial plant that has been used for hundreds of years as a sleep aid as well as an anti anxiety cure. This special, yet smelly herb produces small white flowers and tends to bloom from late May to early fall.

Prized for the root of the plant, valerian can be found in North America, Asia, and Europe. This speaks to the untold species and varieties than are now found, however the variety officinalis is the most commonly found and used for medicinal purposes.
